After our learnings from the research we had to drop the idea, as it was not feasible.

Research plan

LushPlans is platform that is meant to help new couples plan a wedding effortlessly. The team at this point were making plans to build the platform and we decided conduct a foundational research to clarify if there’s a need for this kind of product in the Nigerian market.

Research goals

  1. To know the preferred method people use to invite others to their wedding.
  2. To learn how people find wedding vendors.
  3. To understand the biggest challenges of planning a wedding.
  4. To learn how different methods of invitation affect people’s attendance at the wedding.
  5. To get the average time people need to make their wedding plans.

Research study

We decided to run a survey using Google Forms. I created the form and we prepared some questions, categorising the users into 3 segments

  1. Those that have planned a wedding before.
  2. Those that have partially helped to plan a wedding.
  3. Those that have never planned a wedding before.

Here are some of the questions we asked:

Research results

We got a total of 126 responses.

  • 83% were single
  • 71% of the response was from people between the ages of 20 to 30 years.
  • 66% have never planned a wedding
  • 61% of respondents were males.
  • 22% has planned a wedding, and
  • 12% partially helped to plan a wedding.

Below are some results from the charts.

Research Insights

I combined the results and designed an infographic with all the gathered insights summarized.

Takeaways

  • We learned that users generally preferred printed invitations.
  • We also learned that it took about 6 months on average to plan a wedding.
  • We also learned that people mostly planned wedding and sourced for vendors using family members.

The last takeaway clearly showed us that a wedding planning app (especially for Nigerian users) would not work as users mostly preferred working with family members. The team decided to pause on developing the platform and looked to pivoting before I left the team.
